The Tolmacs Building
524 Mills Street, Kalamazoo
Mihaly Tolmacs, who lived at 522 Mills Street, constructed this basic
brick structure in 1952 for commercial use. Like many of the other Art
Deco-influenced buildings, this features a rounded corner on the most
visible part of the exterior. The building was used for the Radio
Electronics and Television School, a satellite of the Grand Rapids school,
in the 1960s. It also served for some time as the Lauri Sue Studio of
Dancing. Their Polk Directory listing in 1958 offers;
"Expert instruction by trained staff, Learn: Fox Trot, Waltz, Swing,
Tango, Mambo, Samba, Cha-Cha, Marengue. Studio Parties."
